Event Description:
Various old time 5-string banjo styles and tunes will be explored and taught. Both group and individual instruction will be provided. Emphasis will be on Clawhammer styles (Frailing, Beating, Drop Thumb). Other styles (2 finger, classical or parlor, 3 finger, up-picking, etc.) may also be covered. In addition, depending on class experience and interest, 3 or 4 common banjo tuning’s may be covered. Tablature for some of the material covered will be provided. A playable 5-string banjo is required. Also required is an inexpensive battery operated tape recorder which will help each student develop an ear for banjo sounds. The class will not cover the Scruggs bluegrass style, but bluegrass players who want to learn the earlier styles and tunes are welcome. Ages 14 and older Perkins Building T • Nov. 3 - Dec. 8 • 6 - 8pm
